The Treasury (Al-Khazneh), Petra — Iconic Rock-Cut Facade at the End of the Siq (Included with Petra Ticket)
Highlights
Access to The Treasury viewpoint and surrounding area as part of Petra Archaeological Park entry (self-guided).
About this experience
The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) is Petra’s most famous rock-cut monument — the dramatic “wow” façade that appears right at the Siq’s exit. It’s carved by the Nabataeans, about 39.5m tall, and its name comes from a Bedouin legend about treasure hidden in the urn (yes, you can even see old bullet marks from people trying).
What's included
- Access to The Treasury viewpoint and surrounding area as part of Petra Archaeological Park entry (self-guided).
Who it's for
- Perfect for: literally everyone visiting Petra (first-timers, photographers, history lovers).
- Not ideal only if you can’t handle walking — you must reach it on foot through the Siq.
What you'll do
- Walk the Siq (narrow gorge) and arrive at the Treasury reveal for photos, then continue deeper into Petra if you’re doing the full day.
Before you go
- Tickets / price: No separate “Treasury ticket.” You need a Petra entrance ticket to reach it. Official Petra ticketing lists: 1 day 50 JOD (accommodated), 2 days 55 JOD, 3 days 60 JOD, and 1 day 90 JOD (non-accommodated/day-trippers).
Good to know
- Best time: early morning for fewer crowds and softer light.
- Time needed: 30—60 mins at the Treasury (but reaching it + Petra day total is much longer).
- Footwear: wear proper shoes — uneven stone paths.
Why this is worth it
Petra’s main “money shot.” The Treasury is included inside Petra ticket — walk the Siq, get the iconic reveal, then keep exploring.
