Highlights
Access to the main outdoor garden areas around Bay South (Supertree Grove, Dragonfly Lake, World of Plants, etc.), which are generally free to enter.
About this experience
Gardens by the Bay is Singapore’s big, futuristic garden complex by Marina Bay — a mix of free outdoor spaces and paid indoor attractions like the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, plus the iconic Supertree Grove with its nightly light-and-music show. It’s basically “sci-fi botanic garden meets theme park” and is one of the city’s must-do stops, especially towards late afternoon and evening.
What's included
- Access to the main outdoor garden areas around Bay South (Supertree Grove, Dragonfly Lake, World of Plants, etc.), which are generally free to enter.
- With a paid ticket (most visitors buy this): entry to Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, the two big cooled conservatories that recreate different climate zones with dramatic plant displays and indoor viewpoints.
- Time in Flower Dome, a cool-dry conservatory with Mediterranean and semi-arid landscapes, seasonal flower shows, themed displays and lots of photo-friendly corners.
- Time in Cloud Forest, a cool-moist dome built around a tall indoor “mountain” with a huge waterfall, elevated walkways, misting sessions and exhibits on climate, plants and conservation.
- Free viewing of the Garden Rhapsody light-and-music show at Supertree Grove (usually two showtimes each evening), where the supertrees light up in sync with a soundtrack.
- NOT included: paid entry to add-ons such as the OCBC Skyway or Supertree Observatory, Floral Fantasy, separate Marina Bay attractions, food and drinks, or transport to and from Gardens by the Bay.
Who it's for
- Ideal for first-time Singapore visitors, couples, families and friend groups who want that “only in Singapore” futuristic-garden experience.
- Great for people who like plants, architecture, city skylines and lots of good photo spots without needing hardcore hiking or long walks in full heat the entire time.
- Works for most ages and fitness levels; there is walking involved, but paths are mostly flat and there are plenty of benches and air-conditioned spaces (the domes).
- Less suited if you really don’t care about gardens or city skylines, or if you hate any sort of crowds — evenings especially get busy.
What you'll do
- Arrive by MRT (Bayfront station) or taxi and enter via the underground link or main entrance, then walk out into the garden paths with Marina Bay Sands visible nearby.
- Head to the ticket counters or kiosks and buy/scan your Flower Dome + Cloud Forest ticket (the standard “main experience” combo for most tourists).
- Start with Flower Dome: wander through different climate zones, seasonal flower displays and themed areas, taking photos of sculptures, trees and skyline views framed by glass.
- Move on to Cloud Forest: ride the lift up, walk along elevated walkways around the indoor mountain, stand near the big indoor waterfall and watch periodic misting as the whole dome fills with fog for a few minutes.
- Back outside, stroll around Supertree Grove to see the giant tree-like structures up close; if you pay for it, take the OCBC Skyway/observatory for a higher view over the gardens and marina.
- Stay into the evening to watch the Garden Rhapsody light show under the Supertrees (free to watch from the ground), then either wander more of the gardens, grab food at Satay by the Bay/nearby eateries or head back towards Marina Bay Sands/your hotel.
Before you go
- Tickets / price (starts from): the outdoor gardens themselves are free. For planning, a realistic baseline for a standard adult tourist ticket to both Flower Dome and Cloud Forest is about 32 SGD per person, with child/senior and local-resident discounts available, and extra cost for add-ons like OCBC Skyway, Supertree Observatory or Floral Fantasy.
- Duration: plan around 3—5 hours total if you want to do both conservatories, walk a bit outside and catch the Supertree light show in the evening. A quick “domes only” visit can be done in ~2 hours.
- Timing: the gardens open from morning into the evening; many people arrive mid/late afternoon, tour the domes while it’s still light, then watch the light show after dark.
- Climate & clothing: Singapore is hot and humid outside; dress light, wear comfortable walking shoes and carry water. The conservatories are cool/air-conditioned — a light layer can feel nice if you chill easily.
- Rules & behaviour: no smoking, drones or outside alcohol; stay on marked paths, don’t pick plants, and follow staff instructions in the domes and on elevated walkways.
Good to know
- Location: Gardens by the Bay sits right behind Marina Bay Sands; it combines easily with the Marina Bay waterfront, the Helix Bridge, ArtScience Museum or a rooftop view if you plan your day well.
- Evening vibe: if you only have one slot, late afternoon into evening is usually best — you get both day and night views plus the Supertree light show.
- Food: you'll find cafés, food courts and Satay by the Bay (hawker-style outdoor food centre) within or next to the gardens; prices are higher than a local neighbourhood hawker centre but still reasonable by global standards.
- Accessibility: paths are mostly smooth and there are lifts and ramps in key areas; visitors with limited mobility can still see most of the major sights with sensible planning.
- Photography: tripods and pro gear may have restrictions in some spots, but normal phones and cameras are fine; Cloud Forest in particular is a favourite for dramatic wide shots and moody, misty photos.
Why this is worth it
Budget around 32 SGD per adult (outdoor gardens are free) and 3—5 hours for Gardens by the Bay — a futuristic waterfront garden in Singapore where you pair free Supertree and lakeside walks with paid entry to the cool, dramatic Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, then finish under glowing Supertrees during the evening light-and-music show.
