Ölüdeniz Plajı

Ölüdeniz Plajı is the main beachfront of Ölüdeniz on the Turquoise Coast — a long public strand (Belcekız/Belcekiz Beach) with the famous calm Blue Lagoon tucked behind a narrow spit. The water is that classic turquoise-to-deep-blue gradient, with paragliders landing on the sand from Babadağ above. Think “base camp” for swimming, sunbathing, boat trips and flights rather than a single fenced attraction. Plan anything from a quick dip to a full beach + lagoon + paragliding day.

• Use of the main public beach (Belcekız Beach) along the open bay — this stretch is effectively free to access as a normal municipal beach, with small local charges only for things like sunbeds and umbrellas.
• Easy access to the entrance of the Blue Lagoon / Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı just around the headland, where a separate small park fee applies and multiple beach clubs run their own paid loungers and facilities.
• A packed strip of cafés, bars, minimarkets, water-sports stands and tour kiosks right behind the sand for food, drinks and excursions.

• All ages: families, couples, groups and solo travellers who want an easy “walk out of the hotel and you’re on the beach” setup.
• Good for swimmers and casual snorkellers — water is usually calm near shore and shelves gently in many spots, though the open-bay side can be choppier than the lagoon.
• Not ideal if you hate crowds, beach clubs or background noise; in high season the front strip gets very busy and commercial.

• Base yourself in Ölüdeniz or bus/taxi in from Fethiye (roughly 10—14 km, ~20—30 minutes by dolmuş).
• Walk straight out onto Belcekız Beach for a swim, rent a lounger/umbrella if you want shade, and use the beach bars and stalls behind the sand for food and drinks.
• If you want calmer, shallower water, continue along the promenade into the protected Blue Lagoon side (Ölüdeniz Tabiat Parkı) where the water is more lake-like and usually very flat; here you’ll pay a small park/club fee and typical sunbed prices.
• Book or watch tandem paragliding flights from Babadağ — gliders regularly sweep down over the bay and land on the seafront, which is part of the whole Ölüdeniz feel.
• Optionally tack on a boat trip from the beach/harbour to spots like Butterfly Valley, local islands and other coves along the coast.

The Blue Lagoon side inside the nature park charges a small entrance fee per person/vehicle that changes with season and inflation; recent visitor reports also mention local entrance charges of around 100 TRY at some beach park gates.

• Tickets / price: the main public Ölüdeniz beach is generally free to enter; several current guides explicitly list “no entry fees” for the basic beach, with costs only for amenities (sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, cafés).
• Sunbeds and umbrellas are always extra, with prices that fluctuate heavily year-to-year; recent reviews mention very high per-bed pricing at some private lagoon clubs, while the main public strip tends to be cheaper.
• Hours: as a resort beach, Ölüdeniz Plajı itself is effectively accessible 24 hours a day; lifeguard cover and most services follow daytime hours, with peak season activity from morning until late evening.
• If you add paragliding, expect a completely separate cost in the range of about 3,000—3,700 TRY (75—90 GBP) per person in 2025 for a tandem flight, with photos/videos extra depending on package.

• Location: Ölüdeniz sits about 12—15 km south of Fethiye, in Muğla Province, on the Turkish Riviera at the foot of Babadağ; the beach and lagoon are part of a national nature reserve area with strict building limits.
• The beach is a mix of coarse sand and shingle; water shoes are nice but not mandatory. The lagoon side is usually calmer and better for small kids than the open bay.
• Summer (April—October) is main season; July—August can be extremely hot and crowded, so early morning or late afternoon is the sweet spot for both beach time and paragliding.

The core public Ölüdeniz beach is free — you mostly pay for sunbeds, snacks and any extras like the Blue Lagoon park section or paragliding. Come down from Fethiye, swim in turquoise water, maybe wander into the calmer lagoon, and watch (or join) the paragliders dropping out of the sky over one of Türkiye’s most famous bays.
