Bosphorus Strait

• Duration: a standard short Bosphorus cruise is usually about 1.5—2 hours; long “full Bosphorus” tours can take 5—6 hours including a village stop near the Black Sea.
• Timings: short daytime tours typically run once daily in mid-afternoon (for example, Şehir Hatları’s short tour from Eminönü around 14:40), while other operators offer multiple departures throughout the day plus sunset/evening cruises. Always check the specific boat’s schedule for your date.
• Weather: cruises operate in most conditions, but heavy fog, storms or strong winds can cause delays or cancellations; bring a layer for wind on deck even in summer.

• Location & logistics: the Bosphorus runs between the European and Asian sides of Istanbul; classic sightseeing departures are from Eminönü on the Golden Horn, with alternatives from Karaköy, Kabataş, Beşiktaş, Üsküdar and Kadıköy.
• Best time: many travellers rate sunset or late-afternoon cruises as the sweet spot — daylight on the way out, city lights and bridges lit up on the way back. Morning sailings are usually quieter.
